Saxony: 25 new stumbling blocks to commemorate Nazi victims in Leipzig

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - In Leipzig, 25 new stumbling blocks commemorate the victims of the National Socialist dictatorship. Just like the 643 stumbling blocks that have been installed so far, the new stones in front of the former homes of persecuted and murdered people were laid at ground level in the sidewalk, the archive of the Leipzig Citizens' Movement explained. At the beginning of the transfer, relatives of the victims' families were invited on Wednesday, three of whom lived in Leipzig as children. Some of them came from France, England, Israel and the USA.

So far, the stumbling blocks can be found at 226 different locations in Leipzig. They are financed by donations. The stumbling blocks working group was founded so that they can find their place in public space. In addition to the Citizens' Movement Archive, the Evangelical-Lutheran Church District of Leipzig, the Memorial to Forced Labor, the Leipzig Citizens' Committee, the Erich-Zeigner-House and the Ephraim-Carlebach-Foundation belong to it.
