Saxony: Agreement reached on financing laptops for schools

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The digital lessons in Saxony's schools should be financially secured. The state and the municipal umbrella organizations have now agreed on the joint financing of laptops for students and teachers. From 2025, Saxony and the municipal school authorities will each finance the purchase and support of mobile computers for schoolchildren in half. In addition, from 2023, the state of Bavaria will assume all of the costs for equipping teachers with digital devices.

"Our goal is to make a digital learning environment possible for all schoolchildren. The state of Bavaria will spend around 13.6 million euros a year on the further digitization of schools from 2025," explained Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU ).

Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) spoke of a financial effort. The agreement between the state and local authorities makes a reliable contribution to fair burden sharing and sustainable financing of IT equipment in schools.

According to the Ministry of Finance, a total of around 116,500 tablets and laptops should be procured by the end of 2024 as part of the "Digital Pact for Schools". This means that about every fourth student has a digital device. The financing agreement is now intended to stabilize the development.
