Saxony: almost 42,000 euros counterfeit money in Saxony

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Counterfeit money worth almost 42,000 euros appeared in Saxony last year. As reported by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) on Tuesday, 885 counterfeit euro banknotes and 2079 counterfeit coins were registered in payment transactions. The flowers caused damage of 38,040 euros and the counterfeit coins 3945 euros. In 2021, a total of almost 38,000 euros in counterfeit money was found in Saxony

Last year, "fake Fuffziger", i.e. counterfeit 50 euro bills, were found most frequently. According to the LKA, 436 notes were discovered (previous year: 197). This was followed by 218 counterfeit EUR 20 notes (previous year: 235) and 137 counterfeit EUR 10 notes (previous year: 85).

The vast majority of counterfeit banknotes turned up in the big cities. Of the 885 notes, 364 were found in Leipzig, 173 in Dresden and 151 in Chemnitz. This is because most counterfeit money is discovered where a lot of money is spent. This is the case in cities with large shopping malls and shopping centers.

The State Criminal Police Office pointed out that banknotes should always be checked carefully. Anyone who falls for counterfeit money will not get a replacement.
