Saxony-Anhalt: 162 lateral entrants to Saxony-Anhalt's schools for the first time

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In view of the shortage of teachers, Saxony-Anhalt continues to rely on lateral entrants. 162 of them started the practical part of their four-week introductory course on Monday, according to the Ministry of Education in Magdeburg. They get to know their future workplaces and colleagues and take part in the first lessons and projects. According to the ministry, the lateral entrants who bring a different professional experience with them are a great enrichment for the school culture. They are motivated, willing to perform and creative.

Since 2018, four introductory courses have been offered each year at the State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training. The men and women who are to stand in front of classes in the future are made familiar with the basics of planning and designing lessons and with the tasks and competencies of the teacher. The practical phase is part of every basic course. For several years, side entrants have made up a significant proportion of the teachers hired. Last year it was about a third.

In Saxony-Anhalt, the summer holidays end this week, and classes start again on Thursday.
