Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 34 prisoners recently graduated from school. In addition, seven men completed vocational training after the 2021/22 school and training year, the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday in Magdeburg. "Prisoners who graduate from school or learn a trade behind bars set the course for their everyday life after prison themselves," explained Justice Minister Franziska Weidinger (CDU). The aim of the prison system is to prepare prisoners for a new start and a life without crime.

In the past school and training year, for example, 24 prisoners in the Raßnitz juvenile institution in the Saale district acquired a main, secondary or extended secondary school certificate. According to the information, seven prisoners completed an apprenticeship as a building and object coater or as a specialist in metal technology. In the prison in Burg, four prisoners received a secondary school certificate, two managed the extended secondary school certificate.
