If things don't work out with the longed-for offspring, fertility treatment can help. That can quickly become expensive. State and federal government help financially.
Halle (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 426 fertility treatments received financial support last year. A total of around 266,000 euros in state and federal funds were paid out, as the state administration office announced when asked in Halle. The number of grants approved was roughly the same as in the previous year, when 433 grants were approved. In 2019 there were still 480. By August 30 of this year, 238 fertility treatments had been financially supported. This year, 400,000 euros are available for funding.
Most of the 484 applications made in 2021 will also be approved, as the figures show. Above all, applications were rejected because the couples wanted to be treated in a clinic outside of Saxony-Anhalt, although there was no objective reason for this, as it was said. 52 applications came from unmarried couples. No same-sex couple showed interest in the sponsorship.
A total of 335 applications were received as of August 30 of this year. "Compared to the same period in 2021, a slight increase in the number of applications can be seen," said a spokeswoman for the state administration office.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatments are supported. Both are methods in which egg cells are fertilized outside the body and then placed in the uterus. The chances of becoming pregnant in this way depend, among other things, on the age of the woman and the number and quality of the transferred embryos.
