Saxony-Anhalt: Administrative services: the way to the office is often necessary

Applying for a new ID, registering or registering a vehicle - in the future, citizens should no longer have to go to the office for this. In many cases, however, digitization is a long time coming.

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The goal of offering 575 administrative services online for citizens by the end of the year is clearly missed in Saxony-Anhalt. 106 services are currently available online in Germany, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Digitization on Tuesday in Magdeburg. The technical implementation is being worked on for 189 others.

Saxony-Anhalt's Minister for Digital Affairs, Lydia Hüskens (FDP), is counting on an acceleration in the coming year. State and local authorities should pull together more strongly. The state government decided to join the municipal IT union, to which 60 percent of the municipalities already belonged. With the new cooperation structure, development services would no longer have to be put out to tender in a costly and time-consuming manner. Instead, the authorities involved are now able to access existing information. This included a basic infrastructure and the joint purchase of central software.

The Online Access Act should ensure that most particularly relevant administrative procedures can also be completed online in Germany by the end of 2022. This includes administrative processes such as registering a place of residence, applying for a new identity card or registering and re-registering a car. Five years were not enough to reach the goal. Minister Hüskens sees the reason on the one hand in the long term - the topic has often been postponed. On the other hand, the relevance of the topic only became clear to many with the corona pandemic.

As a positive example, Hüskens cited the digital Bafög application, which was developed and launched in Saxony-Anhalt. The digital building application is in sight, it will be tested in some pilot municipalities.
