Saxony-Anhalt: After warning strikes, collective bargaining agreement in local public transport

Halle (dpa/sa) - After several warning strikes, there is a collective bargaining agreement in local public transport in Saxony-Anhalt. In the third round of negotiations, the Verdi union and the Saxony-Anhalt municipal employers' association agreed on Monday, as the union announced on Tuesday. They decided to increase the table fees by 4 percent, but at least 155 euros retrospectively to July 1st. In addition, from April 2023 there will be a wage increase of 2.5 percent by the end of 2023.

"The collective bargaining agreement represents the financial limit for local transport companies in Saxony-Anhalt. It is a painful compromise to avert open-ended strikes in local transport," said Diana Häseler-Wallwitz, managing director of the employers' association.

In Halle, Magdeburg and Dessau, employees had stopped working during the wage dispute. The union had originally demanded an hourly wage increase of EUR 1.50 and an increase in trainee wages of EUR 150 per month. According to Verdi, the negotiations affect around 2,000 employees.
