Saxony-Anhalt: Aid payments for Salzlandkreis and Oberharz am Brocken

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - To finance the increased energy costs, the state supports the Salzland district and the city of Oberharz am Brocken with aid payments. As the House of Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU) announced on Friday, the Salzland district will receive 2 million euros and the city of Oberharz 870,000 euros. The liquidity support is limited until November 30, 2025. "Some municipalities have already felt the increased energy prices this year. The state's liquidity support is a good instrument for cushioning the burden," explained Richter.

Municipalities, associated municipalities and rural districts were able to apply for interest-free loans from the so-called compensation fund under easier conditions until the end of October as soon as a liquidity gap became apparent that was due to the development of energy prices. The funds must be repaid later.

The funds from the equalization fund are primarily used to support municipalities with exceptional burdens and financial emergencies. A total of 40 million euros is available for this every year.
