Saxony-Anhalt: Another avian influenza case detected in Saxony-Anhalt

Bernburg (dpa/sa) - Another case of avian influenza has been detected in the Salzland district. The disease was officially diagnosed in a breeding animal from a poultry farmer in Biendorf on Wednesday, said a spokesman for the district. The breeder's remaining poultry were then killed. According to the district, a stable obligation should not be ordered.

Just a few days ago, several geese died in Saxony-Anhalt because of the virus. Bird flu was also detected in a dead snipe that was discovered in the Altmark district of Salzwedel. These were the first cases of the virus disease in Saxony-Anhalt after several months.

Avian influenza is a viral disease that is highly contagious for domestic poultry and, according to the district administration, causes increased deaths in the animals. Some variants of the avian influenza virus can also be transmitted to other animals and humans in individual cases.
