Saxony-Anhalt: Appeal process against right-wing extremists Liebich in Halle

Halle (dpa/sa) - At the regional court in Halle, a trial against the right-wing extremist Sven Liebich begins again today. The local court in Halle had sentenced Liebich to a suspended prison sentence of eleven months about two years ago for incitement to hatred and defamation. He appealed against this. According to a court spokesman, the appeal basically leads to a new main hearing before the district court, in which all factual and legal issues are re-decided.

The public prosecutor accuses Liebich of insulting and insulting politically active people. The target of his derogatory statements is said to have been the member of the Bundestag Renate Künast (Greens) and the former SPD chairman Martin Schulz. The accused denies the allegations. He is classified as a right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony-Anhalt. He is known, among other things, for regular demonstrations in Halle, where he loudly announces his views.
