Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The districts and urban districts in Saxony-Anhalt have so far taken in 24,197 war refugees from Ukraine. Among them were at least 2589 children in kindergarten and 6094 children of school age by Tuesday afternoon, as the Ministry of the Interior announced on Wednesday in Magdeburg. At the beginning of May, the number of people fleeing Ukraine in the country was around 21,000.
The ministry pointed out that the regulations on the so-called change of legal regime for war refugees from Ukraine have been in effect since Wednesday. Accordingly, people who meet the residence requirements are entitled to benefits under the Social Security Code. So far, the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act has applied to them.
If all the requirements are met, the job centers are there to support the war refugees and help them to secure their livelihood and find work.
