A jury of experts selected works in different categories, as a spokeswoman announced on Wednesday. The work by Björn Naumann and Karl Schinkel from the field of industrial design entitled "C.O.W. - circular organic waste" was the "Best Idea/Best Concept" and they designed a cooking area with self-sufficient energy production with the help of organic waste.

Victor Reichert received the award in the category "Most Committed Concern" for his work "Long Shadows - Stumbling Blocks, Stories, Encounters". According to the information, it is about ideas how graffiti art in the urban environment can be used to commemorate the "stumbling blocks" of the victims of the Nazi era.

On the initiative of the artist Gunter Demnig (Berlin), so-called stumbling blocks have been laid in the ground in Europe since the 1990s, for example in front of house entrances. The metal plaques commemorate the fate of people during the National Socialist period.

In the "Best Communication" category, the jury also won over Eric Geißler (industrial design) with his work "Mycelium Parachute". With the help of "flying objects" it is about enabling the sowing of endangered plant species and thus making wasteland fertile.

For the work "OscilloType" Uli-Ludger Holtschlag received a "GiebichenStein Design Award 2022" in the category Most Interesting Experiment. With the interactive installation, a connection between sound and form is made possible, it was said in justification. In addition to the prizes in four competition categories, special prizes were awarded.

The art school awarded the "GiebichenSteinDesignpreis" for particularly outstanding student achievements for the eleventh time. The award is endowed with 500 euros each. All works, including those nominated, will be shown in an exhibition at the Art Foundation of the State of Saxony-Anhalt in Halle until December 18, 2022. As an art school, Burg Giebichenstein has a long tradition of training designers. More than 1000 people from Germany and abroad are currently studying art and design at the "Burg" in Halle.
