Saxony-Anhalt: Art Academy Burg Giebichenstein celebrates new rector

Halle (dpa/sa) - The newly elected rector of the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy, Bettina Erzgräber, will be ceremonially inaugurated on Wednesday (6 p.m.). However, she has been in charge of official business since the beginning of October, said a spokeswoman for the university in Halle. Erzgräber had worked as a professor for drawing and visual design at Burg Giebichenstein since 2015 and is now taking over the position from industrial designer Dieter Hofmann, who held the position for eight years.

The new rector was born in Saarbrücken in 1964. According to the university, she studied art education, art history and history in Mainz and Stuttgart. The artist has received numerous prizes such as the Marler Video Art Prize. Her works are exhibited nationally and internationally.

The Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle offers the departments of art and design. With more than 1000 students, it is one of the largest art academies in Germany. Visionary thinking and design are to be promoted in over 20 courses, as well as the development of practical professional skills.
