Saxony-Anhalt: Association very satisfied with the utilization of the campsites

Camping is established as a leisure activity and Corona has accelerated the trend. Even after the restrictions have been lifted, this type of holiday will remain popular - especially for a group of guests.

Tangerhütte/Quedlinburg/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Camping holidays in Saxony-Anhalt continue to grow. "We've had linear growth since 2013, and if we're lucky with late summer, we'll reach a peak again in 2022," said Peter Ahrens, President of the Saxony-Anhalt Camping and Leisure Industry Association. The exception was 2021, there were fewer guests than 2020.

"Many young families with children have discovered camping for themselves," said Ahrens. "Long-term camping has increased significantly after years of decreasing. And camping is very cheap, especially in Saxony-Anhalt, compared to other federal states and abroad." At the same time, the demands have increased. "Guests used to be happy if there were 30 washbasins in the washroom. People stood so close together that they couldn't move," said Ahrens. Now it's about individual comfort. "In the sanitary facilities, there are increasingly lockable washing cabins for individuals as well as entire families with their own shower and toilet," said the association president.

The campsite in Beringen (Börde district) counted fewer guests than in the previous year, but more than in 2019. "Last year people had to stay in Germany, now many are going abroad again," said the managing director of "Campingplatz und Indianer Tipi-Village". , Jonathan Mueller. "Young families in particular have discovered camping holidays for themselves. Long-term camping is also in high demand."

The parking space there costs an average of 25 euros. "We had to increase the electricity price from 60 to 70 cents per kilowatt hour. But not much electricity is consumed here anyway," said Müller. "We would also like to expand further, but it's difficult to get a loan from the banks. The state could help with funding opportunities here," he said. "The lack of staff is also a problem."

The campsite at the Rudelsburg has 180 pitches, especially at weekends. "Camping is worthwhile for many outside of the holidays as a short break," said co-owner Christian Schreiber. The number of guests has remained relatively stable in recent years. The Family Camp Kellerwiehl in Tangerhütte recorded more visitors than in the previous year. "There are more guests compared to 2019. But of course we noticed that people were able to fly abroad again," said owner Stefanie Gruber. "Nevertheless, we are satisfied. But due to the rising costs, fewer guests will probably come next year." According to the information, the parking space for a caravan currently costs an average of 28 euros per night, including energy costs; only for showers you have to pay extra. There are only shower stalls and separate bathrooms for rent. Long-term camping is very popular, which hardly played a role before Corona.

In the Harz-Camp Bremer Teich Quedlinburg, the number of guests has decreased somewhat compared to 2021. "Significantly more young families with children, in previous years it was more the older population. What is striking: there are more campers again," said Managing Director Melina Mielitz. "It's probably a trend and also a question of price. The prices are between 21 and 25 euros. We raised the prices last year." There is a waiting list for permanent camping. "Corona has made this a trend. In the years before that, we had problems filling the permanent campsites."
