Saxony-Anhalt: Associations are calling for a longer period for property tax returns

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - For homeowners, there should be an extension of the deadline for property tax returns in connection with the property tax reform from the perspective of several associations. This was announced by the Saxony-Anhalt house and land owners' association and the Saxony-Anhalt taxpayers' association on Friday. "The delays that previously occurred in the administrative implementation cannot and should not lead to disadvantages for those affected," says a joint letter to Finance Minister Michael Richter (CDU).

According to the current status, the submission deadline for property tax returns begins on July 1st and ends on October 31st of this year. From the point of view of the associations, this is too short in view of vacation times and the involvement of tax consultants. They are asking for an extension until the end of January 2023.

According to the information, around 1.3 million properties in Saxony-Anhalt have to be revalued by the authorities for the upcoming reform. To do this, the owners must submit information such as years of construction, living space and land values to the tax authorities.
