Saxony-Anhalt: Authority expects application for Intel factory in early 2023

Halle/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The Saxony-Anhalt state administration office is currently not feeling any delays in the schedule for the planned settlement of the US chip manufacturer Intel in Magdeburg. In a next step, the immission control application is expected for the beginning of 2023, said the President of the authority, Thomas Pleye, on Wednesday in Halle. "We assume that the application will be made." The state administration office is essentially responsible for the approval of the investment project, for example for the production process.

An application under immission control law is very complex, explained Pleye. Approval is therefore also associated with building permits and issues such as nature conservation, waste, water and sewage legislation. According to Pleye, this application will be comprehensively examined technically and legally. In addition, the public will be involved in the course of the process. "Intel is looking for an open conversation," said Pleye about the previous experiences with the US investor.

Intel decided to build a chip factory in Magdeburg. According to previous information, chips should be produced from 2027. In a first expansion stage, two semiconductor plants are to be built. Several thousand jobs could be created. Intel initially wants to invest around 17 billion euros in this. The federal government has announced that it intends to support the manufacturer's settlement with billions.
