Halle (dpa/sa) - According to calculations by the State Statistical Office, the average life expectancy in Saxony-Anhalt has recently fallen. According to calculations, life expectancy between 2019 and 2021 was 82.3 years for newborn girls and 76.2 years for newborn boys, as the authority announced on Thursday. Compared to the last mortality table from 2018/20, the value for girls fell by a good two months and for boys by almost four months.
In a national comparison, the life expectancy of people in Saxony-Anhalt was further below the national average. The life expectancy of newborn boys in Saxony-Anhalt was the lowest in Germany. According to the statisticians, the federal average was 78.5 years. For girls, Saxony-Anhalt has the second lowest value after Saarland. The German average is 83.4 years.
