Saxony-Anhalt: Berend Lehmann Museum receives multi-year funding

Halberstadt/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The Halberstadt Berend Lehmann Museum for Jewish History and Culture can in future work on the basis of multi-year funding. For the years 2023 to 2026, the house will receive 678,000 euros, the State Chancellery and the Ministry of Culture announced on Tuesday in Magdeburg. This gives the museum planning security and the necessary financial leeway to develop into a contemporary agency for Jewish life in Saxony-Anhalt.

A joint agreement with the city of Halberstadt and the Moses Mendelssohn Academy Foundation had previously been signed. The city and the academy each contribute 20 percent of the total costs.

"We take our responsibility for Jewish life in Saxony-Anhalt seriously," declared Minister of Culture Rainer Robra (CDU). "Today we are setting an important example for the preservation and care of the Jewish heritage in Saxony-Anhalt."
