Saxony-Anhalt: Bicycle club calls for better conditions for commuters

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - When the 9-euro ticket expires, the Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club Sachsen-Anhalt has called for further improvements for commuting by bike. A spokesman for the ADFC said that taking bicycles on rail transport was very good and had to be maintained. However, there is plenty of room for improvement in terms of infrastructure and wagon equipment.

Better and safer parking spaces for bicycles should be created at the bus stops, the spokesman said. He thinks of bicycle parking garages. Above all, the issue of safety plays a role here. There is also a lack of rental bikes in many areas of Saxony-Anhalt. He cited the Netherlands as a positive example. Bicycle parking garages there are technically good, uncomplicated and cyclist-friendly.

The 9-euro ticket put a heavy strain on vehicles, staff and stops in public transport in Saxony-Anhalt. That said a spokesman for the Ministry of Transport. In particular on the routes frequented by tourists, such as in the Harz Mountains, it has become apparent that large parts of the rail network are not equipped for significantly more passengers. For the companies, this three-month period was an enormous additional challenge. In June alone, more than 400,000 tickets were sold in Saxony-Anhalt.
