Saxony-Anhalt: blue-green algae on Magdeburg beaches: swimming ban lifted

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The bathing ban on two beaches on Lake Neustadt in Magdeburg has been lifted. The city of Magdeburg announced on Monday that swimming was allowed again on the textile beach and on the children's beach until further notice. As on the nudist beach, bathers are asked to pay more attention. The water quality will be checked further. Because of the strong blue-green algae infestation, bathing on two beaches had been banned since Thursday. Cyanobacteria, called blue-green algae, could be toxic. Allergic reactions or skin irritations can occur, especially in people with previous exposures such as allergy sufferers and small children.
