Saxony-Anhalt: Borris sees the capacity of refugees to be exhausted

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Magdeburg's Mayor Simone Borris (independent) sees the capacity for taking in Ukrainian refugees in the state capital to a large extent exhausted. Thanks to housing companies and many helpers, it was possible to accommodate many Ukrainians quickly, Borris told the "Magdeburger Volksstimme" (Thursday). "However, the accommodation capacities in apartments are largely exhausted. What is still to come is another major challenge. We are in unison with many other municipalities who say: the end has been reached." Magdeburg took in 4,400 Ukrainians.

The mayor added: "And I don't want to use any sports halls for accommodation and after more than two years of Corona say to the children and club members: Sport is no longer possible, we now have to accommodate refugees here." The situation is similar in day-care centers and schools. "Overall, a load limit has been reached for all municipalities," said Borris.
