Saxony-Anhalt: Bottled less mineral water and soft drinks

Halle (dpa/sa) - The bottling of mineral water and soft drinks in Saxony-Anhalt is declining. Last year, around 1.5 billion liters of soft drinks and mineral water were bottled in the state, according to the State Statistical Office. The year before it was 1.6 billion liters. In 2015, production was almost 1.8 billion liters.

The sales value, on the other hand, has increased recently. In 2021 the value was around 355 million euros, in the previous year around 307 million euros.

Throughout Germany, the consumption of mineral water had fallen in 2021. "2021 was a difficult year overall for non-alcoholic beverages and thus also for mineral water, with sales falling by around six percent," said Jürgen Reichle, Managing Director of the Association of German Mineral Springs (VDM), at the turn of the year. The industry-wide decline in sales during the corona lockdown in the first half of the year and the losses due to the mixed weather in summer could not have been compensated for by the sales of mineral springs, which increased again from autumn.

The total sales of the mineral springs industry with mineral water, medicinal water and soft drinks was around 12.3 billion liters in 2021.
