Saxony-Anhalt: Child abuse: Nine years in prison and preventive detention

Dessau-Roßlau (dpa/sa) - The district court in Dessau-Roßlau has sentenced a man to nine years in prison for serious sexual abuse of children over two decades. In addition, the judges ordered subsequent preventive detention for the 45-year-old on Thursday. In doing so, the chamber largely followed the motions of the public prosecutor and the private prosecutor, who had called for ten years in prison and preventive detention. The defense had considered six years' imprisonment appropriate and advocated a later decision on preventive detention.

The judges saw it as proven that the Dessau man repeatedly abused four boys in the period from 2000 to 2020. The man had always built up a relationship of trust with children from difficult family backgrounds and later exploited it. The Dessau filmed the abuse, put the videos on the Internet and offered them for exchange on relevant platforms.

Investigators in Australia and Great Britain had tracked down the perpetrator. Among other things, investigations by the British National Crime Agency contributed to his identification. With the clues, the police were able to locate the suspect in Dessau.

The man had no criminal record. He has largely admitted the crimes in the process. A report certifies him a so-called core pedophilia. However, the liability is not affected.

The verdict is not yet legally binding. The defense has already announced that it will appeal.
