Saxony-Anhalt: Constitutional Court decides on road expansion contributions

Dessau-Roßlau (dpa/sa) - The city of Aschersleben (Salzland district) has filed a constitutional complaint against abolition regulations for road expansion contributions in Saxony-Anhalt. The state constitutional court wants to announce its decision on Tuesday (2:00 p.m.) in Dessau-Roßlau.

The then black-red-green coalition had abolished road construction contributions for citizens in 2020. The municipalities initially received full compensation for their loss of income. Since this year, the state has been paying a lump sum of 15 million euros, which is distributed among the municipalities depending on the size of the settlement area.

The city of Aschersleben considers this regulation to be insufficient. According to its own statements, the city from the Salzland district is not opposed to the omission of the contribution obligation for citizens, but above all to the new financing mechanism. Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities also warn that dilapidated roads can no longer be repaired if the state does not close the financing gaps.
