Saxony-Anhalt: Courses for police candidates with a migration background

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Ministry of the Interior is campaigning for more police candidates with a migration background with special language training. Potential applicants should therefore be able to complete a voluntary preparatory course in Halle from September, which prepares them for the state police entrance test, as reported by the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" (Wednesday). "There is a focus on non-native speakers and people with a migration background," Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) told the newspaper.

Thanks to the new preparatory program, young people could calculate their chances of an apprenticeship and study place at the Police University of Applied Sciences thanks to improved language skills, says Zieschang. In addition, the state police will get more employees in the future, who will contribute to the diversity in the college with their migration background.

According to Zieschang, the police profession is still attractive. "But not everyone who is personally well suited to take up the profession also manages the demanding aptitude selection process."

The state has signed a cooperation agreement with an educational institution in Halle, it said. From September, 15 places will initially be available in the six-month preparatory course. Nationwide courses are to follow.
