The daily flood of news is regularly broken up by stories that range from the odd to the absurd. The year that is coming to an end also has a lot to offer.
Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In addition to the everyday reports from politics, business and culture, there are always strange news that make you wonder and smile. The German Press Agency has compiled seven of these reports from 2022.
BULLDOG TRAVELING ALONE: In January, an enterprising French bulldog spontaneously decides to go on a little trip by train. The dog travels alone by train from Zerbst to Dessau, where the journey ends. The federal police quickly becomes a dog sitter, looks for the owner of the brown four-legged friend with a photo, does not find anything and takes the bulldog to an animal shelter.
SHIT NEIGHBORS: In Hohenmölsen in the Burgenland district, a 66-year-old took drastic action in April after a dispute with a neighbor. She pours feces over the 44-year-old. She is said to have left it in a bucket herself, which she then unceremoniously poured over the unloved fellow tenant. For the police, this is bodily harm, they have investigated extensively.
WITHOUT BREAKING ON THE ISLAND: A 39-year-old Saxony-Anhalter hasn't had a driver's license for two decades, but then he gets behind the wheel again on vacation on the island of Rügen. However, drunk and with lead feet, because he was arrested by the local police in July. 17 kilometers per hour too fast and 1.23 per thousand in the breath alcohol test. What surprises the police: next to the drunk driver without a quip sits a sober friend with a quip.
APPEARED AGAIN: At the end of August, the water police in the Elbe caught a big fish. A car that has been reported stolen since 2016 is taken out of the river near Magdeburg. An angler with an echo sounder had previously become aware of an unusual elevation on the bottom and had informed the police.
HEAD STUCK IN THE BUSHES: In October, while walking in Ebendorf near Magdeburg, a family finds a black box and looks inside. The shock is great, because there is a skull inside. The police are called and they immediately recognize that the skeletonized head is made of plastic and it and the "treasure chest" are probably part of a scavenger hunt.
HEAVY STOCK: Presumed "friends" of simple and hearty home cooking steal a goulash cannon in Ballenstedt in the Harz Mountains in December. The neighboring mulled wine stand near a Christmas tree plantation is not safe from the brazen thieves either. They also plunder the and cause a total damage of around 8000 euros.
