Saxony-Anhalt: Customs officers find large amounts of drugs at the highway checkpoint

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The main customs office in Magdeburg has struck a major blow against drug crime. When checking a van on the A2, 56 kilograms of marijuana and 6.7 kilograms of cocaine were seized, the main customs office said on Friday. The street value of the drugs confiscated on July 6 was estimated at up to 900,000 euros. The vehicle was directed from the highway to the Wüstenforst parking lot. The driver had previously tried to escape control, it said. Several customs vehicles were deployed. The driver was reportedly arrested. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. The investigations continued.
