Saxony-Anhalt: Darker and cooler: Wittenberg is working on an energy concept

Wittenberg (dpa/sa) - The city of Wittenberg is expecting additional costs of almost half a million euros this year due to the rise in energy prices. The city is currently examining a large number of savings opportunities in buildings, rooms and facilities, a spokeswoman said on Tuesday. From now on, the performance of the street lighting will be reduced, and in the long term energy consumption will be further reduced through the continued use of LED lights. If necessary, the water temperature in the swimming pool can be reduced from the previous 29 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees, as can the room temperature, according to the savings proposals.

"Since the school swimming of the elementary schools in the city and partly in the district is a compulsory task of the school authorities in the swimming pool, we hope that the swimming pool can continue to operate even if there is a gas shortage," said the spokeswoman.

According to the city's savings ideas, motion detectors should be installed in cloakrooms and washrooms in day-care centers so that the light only switches on when entering the premises. In the long term, all day-care centers are to be insulated with energy-saving building materials. The Wittenberg Castle Church, the City Church and the Luther House would only be illuminated on special occasions.
