Saxony-Anhalt: Dead baby: Half a year later, the police are groping in the dark

Six months ago, the police in Halle made a horrifying discovery: a dead baby was dumped at a recycling center. The police are assuming a homicide. How's the investigation going?

Halle (dpa/sa) - In the case of the baby's corpse, which was found in Halle shortly after Christmas, the police are still groping in the dark in their investigations. "So far, the child's mother could not be identified," said a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office. A total of around 1,000 people have been interviewed as part of the investigation and 16 people have been heard as witnesses. The first tips from the population did not lead to any success in the investigation, as the spokesman said.

Even after flyers were distributed near the site, there was no further information from the population, the spokesman said. However, according to the public prosecutor's office, there are still preliminary investigations that are currently being investigated. "Therefore, no further information can be given at this time."

The public prosecutor's office in Halle had initiated investigations into a homicide after the baby's corpse was found. The newborn was a girl. According to the preliminary autopsy result, the newborn showed vital signs. The child had thus lived after birth, said a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office.

The baby was found dead on a fence of a recycling center shortly after Christmas by the police. It is unclear whether the girl was born there.
