Saxony-Anhalt: Dehoga: The hospitality industry hopes for good weather at Easter

There is still a long way to go before Easter. But if you want to enjoy the Easter roast in the restaurant, you should reserve early according to the hospitality association.

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The hospitality industry in Saxony-Anhalt is hoping for good Easter business. Normally, the holidays are a driving force for the hotels and restaurants in the state, said Michael Schmidt, head of the hotel and restaurant association (Dehoga) in Saxony-Anhalt. It is time to make up for losses from the first quarter.

Naturally, the first few months of the year are not the strongest in terms of sales. Since there was still no snow in some regions of the Harz, in some places there were even fewer guests than usual, explained Schmidt. For Schmidt, the weather conditions are also decisive for business at Easter. Should it be sunny and the temperatures rise, one could cautiously speak of the start of the spring season. Restaurateur Schmidt is not yet thinking about the start of the beer garden season.

Schmidt recommends booking early for the Easter holiday if necessary. Some houses would have reduced their capacities due to the thin staffing in the hospitality industry. The guest is therefore encouraged to make his bookings now, explained Schmidt. Otherwise, many companies would have their books full early on.

Concerns in the hospitality industry remain high for many businesses, despite the lifting of most pandemic restrictions. In addition to problems with young people, the companies are plagued by the enormously increased costs for food and energy. Due to low earnings prospects and unpopular working hours, many employees are also turning their backs on the industry.
