Saxony-Anhalt: Draft law: Police should be able to work in a more modern way

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's police should in future be able to make use of modern options such as body cameras and electronic ankle bracelets. The prerequisite for this is an amendment to the law on public safety and order in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The cabinet passed a corresponding draft on Tuesday, as announced by the State Chancellery in Magdeburg. This clears the way for deliberations in the state parliament.

According to the draft, officials should in future be able to use electronic ankle bracelets to ward off terrorist crimes. In this way, the whereabouts of a person can be monitored electronically. In addition, cameras - so-called bodycams - should be able to be used permanently to document police operations. The aim is to curb or prevent violent attacks on security forces.

When it comes to speed enforcement, section controls should be possible. They do not measure the speed of a vehicle at a specific point, but the average speed within a section over several measuring points. The section controls should be pointed out in each case.
