Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The German Red Cross in Saxony-Anhalt is opening up more to people who want to volunteer for a specific purpose for a short time. A separate organizational structure will be established for this, said DRK state manager Carlhans Uhle on Thursday in Magdeburg. There are 7,000 full-time employees and 6,000 volunteers, some of whom are specially trained, working in the country. A lot of knowledge is required to work in the water or mountain rescue service and in the medical service.
However, there is also a large group of young people who do not want to commit themselves to long-term commitments, but want to get involved in tasks for a short time, according to Uhle. They would use their existing skills. This group wants to better integrate the DRK. The website should also be available from March. Interested parties can find out more about the possibilities of short-term engagement there and register right away.
