Saxony-Anhalt: Eisleber Wiese is celebrated for the 500th time

Eisleben (dpa/sa) - The traditional folk festival of the Eisleber Wiese will be celebrated for the 500th time this year. The fairground is bigger than ever, said a spokesman for the city in the Mansfeld-Südharz district on Wednesday. Overall, the area of the Eisleber Wiesenmarkt will expand to around 90,000 square meters and the length of the entertainment mile to almost five kilometers. The festival begins on September 16 with a large parade, among other things. This is followed by the traditional draft beer tapping. Nino de Angelo and Linda Hesse also appear.

According to the city, the folk festival offers a huge fair with numerous rides, food stalls and handicraft traders. The Eisleben meadow market dates back to 1521, when Emperor Charles V gave the town the right to hold a cattle and ox market. According to the organizers, it is the "biggest folk festival in Central Germany".
