Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Magdeburg's ex-Mayor Lutz Trümper will in future act in an advisory capacity for the city administration when the US chip manufacturer Intel settles there. The state capital announced on Monday that the focus was on coordination with the surrounding communities of Sülzetal and Wanzleben and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Trümper, who headed the city administration for 21 years, should establish and use networks and bring in experience to represent the interests of the state capital.
Intel wants to start building the two semiconductor factories in Magdeburg next year. Chips are to be produced there from 2027. In a first expansion stage, two neighboring semiconductor plants are to be built, which could create several thousand jobs. Intel intends to invest around 17 billion euros for this initially.
