Gräfenhainichen (dpa/sa) - With the "Melt!" Festival, one of the largest music festivals in Saxony-Anhalt starts on Thursday. From the afternoon on, the first artists will play in the dredging town of Ferropolis near Gräfenhainichen (Wittenberg district), as the organizers announced. About 18,000 visitors are expected; before the pandemic, visitor numbers were around 25,000. The festival offers a wide program with more than 200 artists. The focus is on electronic music, rap and rock.
The festival is one of the most important events in the area, which is also known as the "City of Iron" because of its impressive backdrop of five huge coal excavators. The site itself is on a peninsula surrounded by a flooded open pit lake.
