Saxony-Anhalt: fewer new infections reported in Saxony-Anhalt

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, fewer new corona infections are recorded. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day incidence for the country as 191.1 on Thursday morning. A week earlier the value was 232.2, two weeks ago 293.6 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and seven days were registered. According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence nationwide on Thursday was 237.3.

However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

The RKI gave the highest incidence nationwide on Thursday morning for the independent city of Halle with 262.8, the lowest for the district of Stendal with 148.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week.

According to the RKI, 820,803 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5649 deaths related to an infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.
