Köthen/Zörbig (dpa/sa) - Two wheat fields burned in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district on Monday. On Monday afternoon, flying sparks from a combine harvester led to a fire in a harvested wheat field in Köthen, a police spokesman said on Tuesday morning. 50 volunteer firefighters were able to extinguish the approximately 15 hectare area. The fire caused property damage of 50,000 euros, the spokesman said.
Another fire broke out in a wheat field in Zörbig on Monday evening. The wheat on the 15 hectare field burned down completely, the fire caused damage of 30,000 euros. Here, too, emergency services were able to extinguish the flames before the fire could spread further. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is under investigation, the spokesman said. There were no injuries in either fire.
