Halle (dpa/sa) - According to initial estimates, a fire at a recycling center in Halle caused six-digit damage on Tuesday. In the afternoon, a wheel loader caught fire for an unknown reason, the police said. The fire then spread to surrounding recyclables, two other machines and two adjacent workshops and warehouses.
The area was therefore completely cleared, nobody was injured. 120 firefighters fought against further spread of the fire. A drone was also used. The police have taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
In the meantime, residents have been warned of heavy smoke development via WarnApps and the Twitter channel of the Halle (Saale) police inspection and asked to keep windows and doors closed.
