Saxony-Anhalt: Five candidates want to become mayor of Salzwedel

Salzwedel (dpa/sa) - Five candidates are running today for the mayoral election in the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. Around 19,660 residents are called to vote, according to the city administration. You can cast your vote for the journalist Marco Heide (left), for the restaurateur Nils Krümmel (free voters) or city treasurer Olaf Meining, who is supported as a non-party candidate by the SPD. Security employee Andi Scotland (AfD) and business economist Hendrik Stiller (CDU), who is branch manager at Kreissparkasse Altmark-West, also compete. According to the administration, 2,200 postal voting documents have already been requested.

The term of office of the previous Mayor of Salzwedel, Sabine Blümel, ends in March 2023. If none of the five candidates can secure an absolute majority of the votes this Sunday, a run-off election will be held on November 20th.
