Saxony-Anhalt: Gleimhaus Halberstadt shows art by Dorothea Milde

Halberstadt (dpa/sa) - The Gleimhaus Literature Museum in Halberstadt shows the hitherto almost unknown art of the Quedlinburg Expressionist Dorothea Milde (1887-1964) in an exhibition. After the opening on Saturday, "Harzwölfin" will be on view until September 25th. According to the museum, the graphic artist was considered melancholy, she was only artistically active for about 15 years. The Gleimhaus keeps Milde's estate and has put together exhibits from it for a retrospective.

According to the information, the landscapes of the Harz Mountains were of great importance to the artist. Milde primarily used the technique of pen drawing, and there are also woodcuts in the exhibition. In addition to resin motifs, motifs from East Friesland and the Lüneburg Heath as well as medieval architecture can also be seen.

The Gleimhaus is dedicated to the poet Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim (1719-1803). He worked in Halberstadt during the Enlightenment and also died there. In 1862 his collections became publicly accessible in his former home.
