Saxony-Anhalt: Grimm-Benne welcomes the draft of the Infection Protection Act

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) has welcomed the federal government's new draft for the Infection Protection Act. "The proposal now presented is a good basis for the countries to be able to react in good time to the pandemic in autumn. The law gives us powers to order more targeted protective measures," Grimm-Benne told the German Press Agency on Wednesday.

The SPD politician is currently chairwoman of the Health Ministers' Conference. "The most important thing is the protection of vulnerable groups, which we must not lose sight of. At the same time, schools and daycare centers must remain open," says Grimm-Benne. A special conference of department heads is to take place next Tuesday, where further details of the Infection Protection Act are to be discussed.

To protect against a corona wave in autumn, the federal states should be allowed to impose mask requirements again from October. A mask requirement on buses, trains and planes should continue to apply nationwide, as well as a new requirement for masks and tests in hospitals and care facilities. The federal states should decide for themselves whether they also require masks in publicly accessible indoor areas.
