Saxony-Anhalt: Halle closes emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees

Halle (dpa/sa) - The city of Halle is closing an emergency shelter for refugees from Ukraine. The reason for this is that fewer and fewer people are being admitted to Halle, the city announced on Wednesday. In addition, the job centers are now responsible for processing the applications for benefits from the refugee Ukrainians, which is why the city is not reimbursed for the costs of operating the accommodation, it said.

Currently, 300 people are accommodated in the accommodation in a former hotel. They are to move into apartments rented by the city by the time the facility closes at the end of October.

According to the information, all refugees arriving in Halle have been expelled to other federal states since the beginning of September, with a few exceptions. The reason for this is that the city has a comparatively high admission rate. The state of Saxony-Anhalt ruled out financing the facility and refused to run the accommodation itself.
