Saxony-Anhalt: Haseloff and Zieschang thank volunteers

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - On the day of volunteering (December 5th), the state government thanked the people who contribute to society for the benefit of others. "Volunteering makes an invaluable contribution to our society," said Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) on Sunday. "Volunteering means getting involved and, above all, helping to shape local affairs in your own home region." The spectrum is large and ranges from the comrades of the volunteer fire brigade to the assignment in aid organizations of the rescue services or the technical relief organization to sports clubs and local politics.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) described volunteering as an important pillar of society. For many volunteers, their unpaid commitment is a matter of course. "It is all the more important to thank them for their strong sense of community and to point out the importance of their work for our society," says Haseloff.

According to the information, there are more than 70,000 volunteers in Saxony-Anhalt. This Monday marks International Volunteer Day.
