Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - After complaints about the sometimes massive drop in classes at schools in Saxony-Anhalt, Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) wants to invite people to a school summit in the State Chancellery in January. A government spokesman confirmed this on Thursday on request. The "Magdeburger Volksstimme" reported about it first. The spokesman said that the shortage of teachers could not be remedied in the short term. However, it would be a matter of mitigating this.
This week, local politicians and business representatives again criticized the drop in classes and called on the state government to take action. There were also several suggestions for improvement, for example budgets for schools in order to be able to recruit freelancers. In addition, there should be more advertising for the page entry. The government spokesman said it might not be possible to implement all of the proposals, but parts of them could.
In Saxony-Anhalt, only about 93.5 percent of the lessons are currently covered. The declared goal of the black-red-yellow coalition is 103 percent teaching coverage. This would cover downtime due to illness, parental leave or further training.
According to the Ministry of Education, coverage is 95 percent at primary schools, almost 98 percent at high schools, and 99.5 percent at comprehensive schools. The secondary schools and community schools are in a much worse position at around 88 percent. The ministry gives a value of 92.3 percent for special needs schools.
