Saxony-Anhalt: Hitler exposed, died in a concentration camp: play about Hans Litten

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - A play about the Nazi opponent and lawyer Hans Litten will be shown in several memorials in Saxony-Anhalt in September and October. The premiere is planned for September 2nd in the castle church of St. Anna in the Lichtenburg Prettin Castle, as the organizers of the work and life organization announced. The play can also be seen at the Moritzplatz memorial in Magdeburg, in the prison hall and in the Theater Bernburg. Support for the project comes from the Sachsen-Anhalt Memorial Foundation, among others.

The young lawyer Hans Litten from Halle dared to cross-examine Adolf Hitler in the so-called Edenpalast trial in 1931. For two hours, the then only 28-year-old lawyer Litten cornered him with his own quotes. In 1933 Litten was arrested. Five years later he died at the age of 34 in the Dachau concentration camp. The play traces Litten's journey through various concentration camps.

The director is Marcus Kaloff, winner of the Monica Bleibtreu Prize of the nationwide private theater days. He was tempted to stage the play about the forgotten hero from Saxony-Anhalt, said Kaloff. He was particularly impressed by Litten's courage.

The organizers announced a political play based on historical facts. At the same time, an intense human drama is shown - Irmgard Litten's futile struggle for her son's life. There will be accompanying workshops on the topics of democracy and courage for school classes.
