Magdeburg/Wettin-Löbejün (dpa/sa) - On International Volunteer Day, 41 citizens in Magdeburg and in the Saale district were honored for their work. "Especially in times when the Ukraine war, the corona pandemic or the consequences of climate change determine our everyday life, civic engagement is all the more important," said the district administrator of the Saale district, Hartmut Handschak (independent) in the appreciation of the 32 volunteers Volunteers at the historic Stadtgut in Wettin-Löbejün.

A total of almost 90 suggestions from residents in the Saale district were received by the district administration for the award this year. Magdeburg's Mayor Simone Borris (independent) paid tribute to a total of 19 men and women for their commitment. In the old town hall, she thanked the people of Magdeburg who are active in various clubs and organizations. "Through this special recognition, the value of voluntary work is made visible," said Borris.
