Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - From the point of view of Saxony-Anhalt's Digital Minister Lydia Hüskens, broadband expansion in the state can only be accelerated through joint action by the public sector and industry. Municipalities are often very concerned about bureaucratic hurdles, said the FDP politician in view of the fiber optics day on Monday in Magdeburg. On the other hand, the apparent lack of interest is criticized. Therefore, the different players would have to be brought together.
According to the minister, the current funding period has shown that it often takes more than seven years from the idea for the expansion to the complete completion of the project. "In the best case scenario, we want to halve this period of time." The federal, state and local governments must therefore work together with companies to speed things up. The new funding period for further broadband expansion in the state will begin next year.
