Saxony-Anhalt: Improved flood protection with distribution structure in the Harz Mountains

Ilsenburg (dpa/sa) - After the floods of 2014 and 2017 in the Harz Mountains, protection against further floods has been improved. A distribution structure for flood protection at the Suenbach in Ilsenburg officially went into operation on Thursday. According to the State Chancellery, it should ensure better drainage of the water masses in heavy rain. According to the information, more than 703,000 euros were invested in total. The state provided 80 percent of the funds. Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) was present at the commissioning. In the Harz Mountains, inconspicuous streams can swell to torrential floods during continuous rain and flood streets and houses.
