Saxony-Anhalt: In 2022 it was exceptionally warm and sunny

Offenbach/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - It was exceptionally warm in Saxony-Anhalt in 2022. This was announced by the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday based on preliminary data. Accordingly, the temperatures throughout the year averaged 10.6 degrees Celsius. In 2022, this was 1.9 degrees above the value of the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990.

With 2040 hours of sunshine, 2022 was also the second sunniest year. The sun shone more often in Saxony-Anhalt than in the neighboring states of Brandenburg (2017 hours of sunshine), Saxony (2015), Thuringia (1970) and Lower Saxony (1940).

For Saxony-Anhalt, the weather service also recorded the sunniest March and the second sunniest summer, in which 40.0 degrees Celsius were measured for the first time on July 20 in Huy-Pabsdorf (Harz district). "The second decade of December showed its icy side," and the turn of the year was extremely mild. With a rainfall of 446 liters per square meter, Saxony-Anhalt was one of the driest regions.
